Dear Member

Great to see all the people in Arrowtown on the weekend for the always fabulous Akarua Arrowtown Autumn Festival.

It's certainly feeling busier around town and far from being miserable May, we have plenty of exciting opportunities to participate in.

Before the ski season starts and town gets even busier, and the weather turns, it's a great time to take stock of your emergency preparedness.

Civil Defence Emergency Management Otago has provided a timely reminder about being prepared for AF8.

This follows new research revealing the chances of a damaging earthquake within the next 50 years are much higher than previously thought. Make sure you are ready - practice ‘drop, cover and hold’; make your evacuation plans with your loved ones; check your emergency kit; ensure your home and workplace are quake safe.

We also encourage you to sign up to Otago Gets Ready to receive text/email alerts and the share information about any skills, resources or vulnerabilities you may have which can assist Civil Defence in its planning and ensure help gets more quickly to where it’s most needed. More information here.

Hope to see you at one of our fabulous upcoming events.

Take care

Ruth
